Studio & Garage

This family’s backyard was their living space, spilling out from within their home. In an effort to formalize these exterior spaces, we develop a language that mirrors what is existing, organizationally and visually. The two buildings slide past each other with generous overhangs that merge into to the landscape they live in. Clerestory windows let in diffused light throughout the interior and frees up wall space for art, entertainment, and privacy. The interior plywood cladding adds a textural quality that indicates a utilitarian space. Within the studio, an office space, living space, and changing room are organized around a central fireplace that acts as the central amenity hub. These spaces are designed to be used, to exist as the infrastructure for a life outdoors.
