Monument for
a Monument

The Monument to the Great Northern Migration in the neighborhood of Bronzeville, Chicago is reimagined into the story of African American journeys in today’s context of racial inequity. This installation comments on their stagnancy in society as the installation encapsulates the statue. It explores the idea of movement through the rotation of geometry while missing pieces disrupt the fluidity of each path. African Americans are represented in the image as stuck in an oppressive environment in an ongoing fight. As they try to overcome one hurdle, another is behind it.
